Three-lake-hike

Three-lake-hike

The three precious jewels of the Alpstein

The trail starts with a magnificent panoramic view on the Hoher Kasten. After a short steep descent to the Kastensattel, you follow the Geological Panorama Trail. At Wenneli the descent to the first lake takes place. The Sämtisersee is sometimes huge, sometimes it disappears and shrinks to the size of a soup plate. The underground outflow into the Rhine valley makes this natural phenomenon possible.
As an alternative route, you can also follow the ridge path in the direction of Staubern – Bollenwees and observe the lake from a bird’s eye view.

From the Sämtisersee via Rainhütte or via Plattenbödeli you reach the second lake.
The Fälensee with its deep black water and the mighty steep flanks of the Hundstein and the Roslenfirst reminds of the fjord landscapes of Scandinavia.

The route continues over the Widderalp to the Widderalp saddle. From here, the route goes downhill in the direction of Meglisalp. Shortly after Meglisalp, the Seealpsee becomes visible in the depths. After a steep descent you reach this hotspot known from Social Media. After the obligatory photo, the last leg of the hiking tour takes place to Wasserauen.

With the Appenzeller Bahn to Weissbad and then with the postbus, you get back to the starting point Brülisau.
Please note the postbus connections to Brülisau. In rural Brülisau it is possible that the last connections leave between 17:00 – 18:00.
If you miss the connection, you can reach Brülisau from Weissbad via the Chlustobelweg within 45 minutes.
